III/JG11 Squadron was formed in June 2002 by a
group of people that were dissatisfied with unrealistic manner the
way IL2 was being flown in most arenas. The dissatisfaction came
about due to most people flying IL2 with external views and icons
turned on.
A decision was made that IL2 should be flown as realistically as
possible. This meant, no Icons, no external views and all in game
options set to Full Real. An exception was made for the use of
padlock due to PC monitor limitations.
The
Squadron started with members leaving a well-known squadron to
form III/JG11. A number of others from this well know squadron
joined us quickly as they were of a like mind in relation to how IL2
should be flown.
At
that time the squadron had approximately twelve members, over time,
a number of others have joined and left III/JG11and at one stage the
squadron numbered twenty-four pilots. Nine of the original twelve
remain today and they form the core of our squadron. A number of junior members left due to the
strict regime adopted in battle.
Our members are spread all over Australia as well as New Zealand and
come from all works of life. Members enjoy the chance to socialise
with each other, which has helped put a face behind the voice and
many close friendships have been forged in the fires of battle.
In early 2005
one junior member and two of the original members left the squadron
as a result of a disciplinary offence. Three other members also
followed however only one of those was considered a great loss to
the Squadron. This also allowed for the return of the original
Commanding Officer, III/JG11_IJ to be accepted as an Honorary
Member.
The squadron
recruited a number of first class pilots which more than compensated
for the losses at that time. The new recruitment allowed for a
restructure of the Squadron which today sees the III/JG11 Squadron
engaging in a number of other activities including a JG11 Racing
team, a Joint Operations team all of which enabled the "fun" aspect
to be reborn.
The Squadron is
a much more social and tighter knit unit than it ever has been.
Members meet with members from other squadrons over a meal and a
couple of beers and a number of close friendships have been formed
with other Squadrons.
III/JG11 participated in the Virtual Eastern Front online war and
was rated as number three in the world and only one of six
squadrons to be awarded a medal. This was no mean feat when one
remembers that the squadron had only been participating in the war
for a short period of time.
The Squadron currently participates in online Scorched Earth wars against a variety
of foes, both in Australia and the United States. These clashes normally occur every Sunday
and Wednesday and are
always hard fought affairs that leave most sweating from the
adrenaline rush gained in fighting in a full real battle.
The III/JG11
Squadron was asked to be a founding squadron member of the FISC
group and is proud to be associated with this fine organisation.
The dedication and skill shown by the members of III/JG11 will
ensure that this squadron will be a force to be reckoned with for
some time to come.
